About DHFMR Research Grants:
The proposed major program concepts fall into three general categories:
- Dubai Harvard Foundation Research Centers based at HMS to focus and direct training and research
- Collaborative Research to support host laboratories in Dubai and the Region
- Leadership development to train scientists and researchers for the Region
DHFMR Grants and Programs:
1. Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research Collaborative Research Center Awards
The DHFMR Collaborative Research Center Awards were given to innovative research collaborations between laboratories and research centers located at Harvard Medical School and laboratories and research centers in the Middle East region. They will provide $350,000 per year for a maximum of five years and are designed to support research programs that bring novel ideas and new approaches to medical, biomedical or translational research. The research proposals should focus on health issues or diseases that are endemic in the Middle East or particularly relevant to the population of the region.

2. Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research Seed Grant Program
The DHFMR Seed Grant Program will make awards available to collaborative research initiatives that are in the conceptual or early stages of development. These 3-year awards are intended to encourage and support collaborations between Harvard Medical School (HMS) research centers or labs and their counterparts in the Middle East region at the beginning phase of their research partnership. DHFMR Seed Grant Program Awards may provide initial research support for new investigators, or for the exploration of innovative new directions for established researchers.

3. Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research Post-doctoral Research Fellowship Awards
DHFMR Post-doctoral Research Fellowship Awards provide specialized training opportunities at Harvard Medical School or affiliated institutions at the post-doctoral level for young investigators and junior faculty from the Middle East in coordination with the regional research partner. These young investigators are selected for their leadership potential and will work closely with the Research Center’s principal and co-investigators, post-doctoral fellows and other laboratory staff. Upon completion of any training period, these post-doctoral trainees will be expected to return to their country of origin to become a key link between the DHFMR Collaborative Research Center and the broader regional research community.

4. Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research Science Writers and Journalists Program
Each year DHFMR selects three journalists who traveled to Boston for a weeklong fellowship program offered by DHFMR. The DHFMR Science Writers and Journalists program, held at Harvard Medical School (HMS), is conducted in association with the HMS Office of Public Affairs. The program is designed to give science writers, journalists and broadcasters the opportunity to increase the depth and breadth of their reporting on health care, medical innovation, and scientific research.
