REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research 2008 Collaborative Research Center Awards (PDF).

DHFMR SEED GRANT PROGRAM AWARDS 2008: The DHFMR Seed Grant Program will make awards available to collaborative research initiatives that are in the conceptual or early stages of development. These awards are intended to encourage and support collaborations between HMS research centers or labs and their counterparts in the Middle East region at the beginning phase of their research partnership (link to Seed Grant page).

Award Name: Collaborative Research Programs and Research Fellowship Awards
Deadline for submission: September 1, 2007
Grant Information: Details concerning the formation of Collaborative Research Programs with laboratories of Harvard Medical School, the Research Fellowship Awards, the formal Request for Proposals (RFP) process are now available online (request for proposals)  [The deadline for proposal submission was September 1, 2007].

About DHFMR Research Grants:

The proposed major program concepts fall into three general categories:

  • Dubai Harvard Foundation Research Centers based at HMS to focus and direct training and research
  • Collaborative Research to support host laboratories in Dubai and the Region
  • Leadership development to train scientists and researchers for the Region

Dubai Harvard Foundation Research Centers
Responsible for:

  • Establishing a focus for research and training
  • Recruiting HMS faculty dedicated to developing collaborative programs and training talented scientists from the Gulf Region
  • Establishing directed research at targeted disease areas of high priority to the Gulf Region
  • Holding Dubai Harvard Foundation scientific meetings, generating publications that will credit Dubai and Harvard, facilitating collaborations with other academic centers around the world that will contribute to building the scientific output of designated labs in the Gulf Region

Success will be measured by the scientific output (above) and the ability to attract additional sources of funding.

Collaborative Research Grants
Responsible for supporting and preparing future host sites in the Region

  • Ideally designed to be paired with a Dubai Harvard Research Center and a designated Lab in Dubai or the Gulf Region
  • Funding to Lab in the Gulf Region will be based on the scientific output and capability
  • The Grants will provide opportunities for talented, trained scientists coming from the Dubai Harvard Research Centers to return to the Region

Success will be measured by publications and the scientific output, the ability to attract scientists and additional sources of funding.

Leadership Development
Building the scientific capital

  • Awards are designed to train graduates in scientific research at a doctoral and a postdoctoral level; Grants will be awarded with incentives to continue research within the Gulf Region after a given period of time within the Harvard community

The success of this program will be measured by publications, the ability to gain additional funding and the number of candidates that take up leadership positions in the region.
