In the fall of 2017, the Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research (DHFMR) partnered with the World Health Organization-Eastern Mediterranean Office (WHO), to organize and host a 4-day workshop in Dubai; Health Systems Strengthening for Universal Health Coverage. The workshop ran from November 9-12, 2017, and was held at the Fairmont Dubai Hotel. The overall purpose of the course was to improve understanding and enhance analytical capacity of the participants in the area of health systems and its analysis. The course was designed for health care sector policymakers, managers and providers, who were from or working in developing countries, to build their understanding of health systems. Participants learned how to define a health system, identify the different components of a health system, explain how they interact with one another, and appraise health system frameworks including the WHO health system conceptual framework.

A wide-range of international health professionals attended the workshop (65 in total), and there was positive feedback on the workshop overall.
